ISLAMABAD: The banned outifit, Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), continues its protest here and in Islamabad on Saturday against the government for not releasing its leader, Saad Rizvi, and not expelling the French ambassador.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has been asked by Prime Minister Imran Khan to return to Pakistan from Dubai to assess the situation.
Three policemen and two TLP workers have lost their lives in clashes overnight, with several protesters injured. The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has issued a list of roads that are closed owing to poor law and order situation.
The workers of the TLP began their protests earlier this week, hoping that the Punjab government would release their party chief who remains in detention for the last six months.
A spokesperson for the banned outfit, Saddam Bukhari stated that the ‘peaceful protesters’ were attacked from all corners by the police officials. Whereas, Lahore DIG (Operation) Spokesperson Mazhar Hussain stated that the protesters attacked the policemen with sticks, stones, and petrol bombs.
