KARACHI: On Friday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to release the schedule for Local Government polls in Hyderabad and Karachi. The decision was reserved by the bench under Chief Justice SHC Ahmed Ali Sheikh. SHC announced the verdict on the pleas submitted by Jamaat-I-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf.
The second phase of the LG elections was delayed because of the floods and heavy rain situation across Sindh. With the current orders from SHC, the ECP has to immediately release a new date for the elections.
However, Muttahida Qaumi Movement submitted a plea to SHC to delay the polls until amendments are not made to the local government laws.
