Karachi: When it comes to theatre, the youth of our country is loaded with talent and has a lot of potential to uplift and promote the classic performing art form. Youngsters need a platform to showcase their theatre skills and make their voices heard among the masses. With the aim to be an arena of young talented performers, the SZABIST performing arts society organises one of the finest theatre events in the country known as ZABTHEATRE.
The Legacy of ZABTHEATRE
The event has been taking place for the past six years. It has evolved as one of the most celebrated events among the student theatre fraternity. The vision behind the event was to give schools, colleges, universities and private teams a forum to unleash their theatrical abilities by performing in front of theatre enthusiasts.
Since 2017, many talented student teams have received appreciation for their skills and discovered the hidden skills in them:
2017: Haque Academy won the inaugural ZABTHEATRE.
2018: Greenwich University ended up winning the best Play award.
2019: young students of Karachi Grammar School Middle Branch won the best play.
2020: The Beacon House Primary School PECHS branch emerged victorious.
ZABTHEATRE’23: Let the curtains be lifted
This year, the event will take place at Arts Council Karachi and promises to be a bigger and even better edition. The theatre festival has some promising performances lined up on March 18 and March 19. Talented performing groups from Karachi University, FAST University, IBA and Shaiyanne Malik will grace the stage with their theatre plays.
The President of the SZABIST performing arts society, Talal M. Siddiqui, believe that the dedicated team of the event has made it possible to carry the legacy of ZABTHEATRE
“ZABTHEATRE has been our flagship event for the past six years. There have been ups and downs all throughout, but one thing is for sure, if you have a team like PAS FAM, you can actually do wonders in no time.”
The event will also shine with music, dance and drama performances by SZABIST performing arts students and performers.
