In a swift and decisive intelligence-based operation (IBO), security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district eliminated four terrorists, the media’s military wing confirmed on Monday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a press release detailing the successful operation, which was conducted following intelligence reports indicating the presence of terrorists in the area.
“Acting on credible intelligence, our brave troops swiftly engaged the terrorists’ location, resulting in the elimination of four terrorists,” stated the ISPR. The militants, identified as active participants in various terrorist activities in the region, were neutralised in the operation.
Alongside thwarting the imminent threat posed by the terrorists, security forces also seized weapons and ammunition from the militants’ possession, further disrupting their nefarious activities.
The operation has garnered praise from locals in the area, who have expressed appreciation for the unwavering commitment of security forces in combating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the populace.
This latest operation comes on the heels of a similar successful engagement in Dera Ismail Khan district, where two alleged militants, Nawaz alias Gandapuri and Mohsin Nawaz, were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces on Sunday. The ISPR reported an intense gun battle between security forces and militants, resulting in the elimination of the two militants.
The resurgence of terrorist activities in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, has posed significant challenges to security forces in recent times. The banned militant Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s cessation of a ceasefire with the government in November 2022 has further exacerbated the security situation.
According to an annual security report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan witnessed a substantial increase in violence-related fatalities and injuries in 2023. With over 90 per cent of fatalities and 84 per cent of attacks concentrated in KP and Balochistan, the regions remain focal points for counter-terror operations aimed at ensuring peace and stability.
