Islamabad: Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf criticised the Supreme Court of Pakistan over its decision to organise elections on May 14. During an interview with a US media outlet, he said if the Supreme Court probes into the matters of parliament, then others will carry the same practice.
According to Speaker NA, who also served as a prime minister during the PPP regime, the apex court should take matters of legislative business into their hands in case the lawmaking authority of parliament is unacceptable. He added that if the parliament has to practice the legislative authority by following the directives of Supreme Court, then the farce of elections has to end.
The seasoned politician added that political matters should be solved by parliamentarians on their own in the parliament or at any different forum of their choice.
Raja Pervez Ashraf asked the question that how can anyone interfere in the domain of the representatives that were chosen by the public. He believed that taking political matters into court would harm both judiciary & politics and stated that there should be division in politics but not in Supreme Court as it would be dangerous.
Regarding the address of Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that his adherence to the constitution and trust in parliament was reassuring. He also spoke about the anti-terrorism operations in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said that there are no chances for any new anti-terrorism operations. However, he further added that the law-enforcing authorities are acting to eradicate miscreants.
