Omar Ayub, Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, evaded arrest on Sunday following a raid on his residence in Sector F-10. The operation was conducted by a joint team from Islamabad and Mianwali police, acting on arrest warrants issued by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Sargodha.
The Mianwali police stated in a handout that their assistant sub-inspector (ASI) visited Ayub’s residence merely to serve bailable warrants, not to arrest him. Despite this claim, Ayub went into hiding and criticised the authorities for their aggressive actions.
In a social media post, Ayub expressed his frustration, saying, “Bailable arrest warrants were issued for me by ATC Sargodha, but Mianwali police and Islamabad police teams came to my Islamabad house to arrest me a few minutes ago.” He accused the federal and Punjab governments, along with various agencies, of being desperate to detain him.
Ayub vowed that their political struggle would persist until former Prime Minister Imran Khan returned to power. The incident has sparked further tension between PTI and the current government, highlighting the ongoing political instability in Pakistan.
