In an unfortunate event that took place in Ohio, a pregnant woman identified as Laura Ilg died after she got accidentally shot by her toddler. The doctors were unable to save the unborn child as well.
According to details, Laura Ilg was 33 weeks pregnant when she faced the fatal accident. On Friday afternoon, her 2-year-old son found a gun in the bedroom and started to play with the weapon. Before Laura Ilg could know, the toddler accidentally pressed the trigger that hit her on the back.
Right after the gun was shot, Laura’s husband Alex called 911 for help. News reports suggest that officers arrived three minutes after the call at 1:14 p.m. The police told that they shifted her to Fisher Titus Medical Center. After an hour, the unborn child was pronounced dead. By 5:10 p.m. the medical team announced that Laura Ilg couldn’t sustain the fatal shot.
Police confiscated the weapon, which was a SIG Sauer P365 with a loaded magazine and shell casing. There was also a 12-gauge shotgun and airsoft rifle in the house.
Norwalk Police Chief David Smith briefed that though the house was child protected, one of the gates got open and allowed the child to enter the room where the weapon was left out. He added that Laura did not know that her son had sneaked into the room. The police added that no charges have been filed.
