Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he would ensure that every penny, gained from the pledges announced by the international community, is used towards restoring, repairing, rehabilitation and the prosperity of the flood-affected people.
Pakistan has earlier this week raised over $10 billion in pledges at a conference it co-hosted with the United Nations in Geneva. However, the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar pointed out that a large sum of the total pledge, amounting to $8.7bn, comprises of loans. The prime minister, however, hopes that the terms and conditions for the loans would be rather moderate.

ThePrime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called the conference a “success” and said that the country would have failed to raise such an amount had the international community not have trust in the country’s ability and had concerns over financial irregularities.
