LAHORE: The local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have compelled Prime Minister Imran Khan to take the matters into his own hands for the local government elections in Punjab.
On Thursday, the prime minister held a meeting at the chief minister secretariat with the Punjab government officials. He directed the provincial government to complete its homework for the upcoming elections as this time he will personally monitor the preparations.
According to sources, the prime minister blamed the selection of candidates, during the meeting, for PTI’s defeat in KP local government elections. He said that candidates should be selected on merit rather than on the basis of dynastic politics. He stressed on the need for selections made on merit, stating that such candidates would give opponents tough competition.
During the meeting Federal Minister Shafqat Mahmood, Special Assistant to PM Dr Shahbaz Gill, Punjab Local Government Minister Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed, Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid, and Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar were present along with other workers of the party.
Mr Khan has asked the provincial leadership to involve veteran party leaders for guidance for the forthcoming Punjab elections. He also said to accelerate the distribution of the Sehat Insaf Card.
