The preliminary investigation report of the suicide attack in Peshawar Police Lines on Monday has been submitted to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The report stated that a high-level investigation committee has been established to probe into the security lapse. It further added that the investigation was underway on the CCTV footage of the Police Line’s family quarters. The report claimed that evidence of a suicide attack was found at the spot of the incident. The blast collapsed the roof of the mosque, which caused more damage.
A senior police officer said that on Monday the investigation officials were conducting a meeting in the police line and went to the mosque for prayer. Several investigation officials died in the horrific blast. The police officer added that they have obtained the details of people staying in the family quarters and all the guests visited.
Meanwhile, the death toll has reached 92. According to the spokesperson of Lady Reading Hospital, 88 dead bodies were brought to the hospital and 57 injured are still under treatment. District Emergency Officer of Rescue 1122 Peshawar, Naveed Akhtar, said they removed the slabs carefully with the hydraulic cutters to assure the safety of those trapped inside.
He added that sensor devices were used to check for survivors. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif unveiled that the attacker was residing in the area for the past one or two days. CCPO Peshawar said that it was also possible that the attacker came in an official vehicle.
Earlier, the responsibility for the attack was claimed by the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). However, later, the terrorist organisation retracted the claim.
On Tuesday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s caretaker government declared mourning across the province. The national flag was flown at half-mast on all government buildings. Traffic remained low across the city as a wave of terror and sorrow surrounded Peshawar.
