Following Pakistan’s narrow defeat to India in the T20 World Cup on Sunday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced that significant changes are imminent for the national team.
India clinched victory over Pakistan by six runs in a tense match, with Rishabh Pant scoring 42 runs and Jasprit Bumrah taking three crucial wickets. Pakistan’s total of 113 runs fell short of India’s 119, severely impacting their chances of advancing to the Super Eight stage.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Naqvi expressed his disappointment and indicated a need for drastic measures. “Initially, we thought minor adjustments would be enough, but after such a poor performance against India, it’s clear we need a major overhaul,” he stated.
Naqvi highlighted the current struggles of Pakistani cricket, acknowledging, “Our performance is at its lowest. Improving the team’s performance is our biggest challenge.”
He hinted at forthcoming changes, emphasising the need to inject new talent into the team. “We need to prepare the team for the Champions Trophy. It’s time to give new talent sitting on the sidelines a chance,” Naqvi said.
The PCB chairman reiterated his commitment to transforming the team into one of the world’s best. “I am well aware of the issues within the team and the reasons behind our defeat,” he said.
Naqvi also recognised the high expectations of Pakistani cricket fans. “The nation does not expect such disappointing performances from the cricket team. We must deliver better results,” he concluded.
