Pakistani authorities arrested a passenger at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport for attempting to smuggle 544 grams of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, on a flight bound for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The arrest was part of a broader crackdown by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), which has recently intensified its efforts to curb drug trafficking in the country.
In addition to the Lahore airport bust, ANF officials at Islamabad airport apprehended a female passenger carrying 53 heroin-filled capsules, also en route to Jeddah. The woman was taken into custody, and the drugs were confiscated.
The ANF’s operations extended beyond airports. In Sialkot, a parcel containing 470 grams of crystal methamphetamine, destined for Bahrain, was intercepted at the General Post Office (GPO). In another significant seizure, ANF officers discovered 26.4 kilograms of hashish hidden in a car near a hotel on Shikarpur Road. The suspect involved was arrested at the scene.
The total value of the seized drugs is estimated to exceed Rs24 lakh on the international market. Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Anti-Narcotics Act, and further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the networks involved in these smuggling attempts.
