ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shaukat Tarin became the subject of harsh criticism when he tweeted on Sunday that Pakistan ranked among 139 cheapest countries of the world. The claim, as expected, drew sharp reactions from all quarters, especially the opposition.
The opposition did not let the opportunity go to waste and rebuked the government for inflicting unprecedented levels of inflation in the last three years or so. Tarin had earlier tweeted screenshots of the Cost of Living Index 2021.

The opposition did not take kindly to the claim and said that people were subjected to the worst inflation in the history of the country. The JUI-F President and the leader of the Pakistan Democratic Movement Molana Fazlur Rehman slammed the government for claiming that the country was among 139 cheapest places to live amid growing numbers of suicide due to unemployment and high inflation.
The visibly irritated Molana said that the government’s claims were far from the on-ground realities, adding that the government would be ousted soon by the PDM.
