Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reinforced their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation as a high-level Saudi delegation, led by Minister for Investment Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Al Faleh, met with President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir during the second day of their three-day official visit.
The Saudi delegation, which arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday night, is expected to sign multiple trade and investment agreements, alongside several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as infrastructure, mining, agriculture, and information technology. The delegation’s visit is part of ongoing efforts to expand Saudi investments under the framework of Pakistan’s Special Investment and Facilitation Council (SIFC).
During the meeting at the President House, both President Zardari and Minister Al Faleh emphasised the need for closer collaboration to build a prosperous future for both nations. President Zardari lauded the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, describing it as a “time-tested friendship.” He expressed Pakistan’s interest in elevating this bond to a long-term strategic and economic partnership.
“We hold deep respect for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and are inspired by the visionary leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman,” President Zardari stated. “Our goal is to forge an enduring partnership that not only strengthens our economies but also promotes peace and stability across the region.”
Minister Al Faleh reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s recognition of Pakistan’s strategic geographical importance and its wealth of natural resources. He highlighted the Kingdom’s plans to invest heavily in Pakistan’s infrastructure and mining sectors, with 25 agreements set to be signed during the visit.
“This visit marks a new chapter in our economic cooperation,” Minister Al Faleh said. “We see immense potential for growth in sectors like renewable energy, agriculture, and technology, and we are excited about the prospects of working closely with Pakistan to unlock these opportunities.”
In a separate meeting, COAS General Asim Munir welcomed the Saudi delegation at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. The discussion focused on further strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in defense, security, and economic cooperation.
“The enduring brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is a source of pride for us,” General Munir said. “We deeply value the unwavering support of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and we look forward to achieving mutually beneficial outcomes from this visit.”
The Saudi delegation’s visit, which includes meetings with various Pakistani officials and business leaders, is seen as a significant step toward enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries. The agreements expected to be signed over the course of the visit are anticipated to drive new investments and foster deeper collaboration in a range of sectors critical to both nations’ development goals.
