In a tragic incident on Tuesday, retired Major Ghulam Rasool, an operational manager at a private security agency, was allegedly shot dead by a former employee in the Ghalib Market area.
According to a police official, Rasool, 55, was parking his car near Imroz Market when Jalil, a former guard of the agency, approached him and fired a pump-action gun. The attack proved fatal as Rasool received a single bullet to the head.
Eyewitnesses reported that locals quickly overpowered Jalil and handed him over to the police. The suspect confessed to harbouring a grudge against Rasool for terminating his employment “without any justification.”
Jalil, who is from Sahiwal, had recently secured a position at another private security firm in Gulberg. He had been waiting for an opportunity to confront Rasool since his dismissal. A police official noted that Jalil had been employed by his new company just a day before the incident, and his security clearance was still being processed.
Authorities have sent Rasool’s body to the city morgue for an autopsy and have registered a murder case against Jalil. The investigation is ongoing to understand the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
