KARACHI: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has announced national awards and cash prizes for artists. The minister was present during the MOU signing ceremony between the Information Ministry, Pakistan Arts Council and Pakistan Television (PTV), where he made the announcement.
He said that the entertainment industry would receive 22 National Awards and prize money worth Rs250 million.
He said that Pakistan’s entertainment industry had a glorified past, the new film policy will ease things for the film industry. Foreign dramas have been subjected to taxes to promote local content. He further said that advertisements casting foreign actors would also pay taxes.
Fawad added that they have made the procedures to acquire NOC simpler, and formed films division in the vicinity of Pakistan Television. He also briefed about the forthcoming projects including Allama Mohammad Iqbal, a co-production with Iran, and Zaheeruddin Babar with Uzbekistan. He said that both films would have a substantial budget and international standard cast.
