On Saturday, a man was stoned to death in Mian Channu by an angry mob which accused him of desecrating the Holy Quran. The incident comes barely two months after the Pritantha Kumara’s case, who was lynched by fellow workers in early December.
Reportedly, a middle-aged man had claimed innocence over the desecration case in Jungle Dera village. But an angry mob dragged him away from the custody of the Station House Officer (SHO), tied him with a tree and stoned him to death.
The case has raised questions on the performance of police who reached before the incident and still couldn’t save the victim. On Sunday, Prime Minister Imran Khan took the notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry against the criminals and police officers who failed to fulfill their job.
According to Punjab police, 15 suspects have been arrested. An additional 85 people are detained for further investigation.
