Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has taken to Instagram to reaffirm her unwavering support for the people of Gaza amidst criticism stemming from her recent collaboration with former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on a Broadway musical.
In her Instagram post shared on Wednesday night, Yousafzai addressed the ongoing atrocities against the Palestinian people, expressing anger and despair over the relentless violence they endure. She particularly highlighted the recent discovery of mass graves at Gaza’s Nasser and al-Shifa hospitals as a grim reminder of the horrors faced by Palestinians.
Asserting her condemnation of the Israeli government’s violations of international law and war crimes, Yousafzai vowed to continue advocating for a ceasefire and the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid. She emphasised the importance of holding perpetrators of violence to account and standing in solidarity with the voices of the Gazan people.
Yousafzai’s statement comes amidst backlash following the announcement of her collaboration with Clinton on “Suffs,” a Broadway musical centered on the suffrage movement in the US. Critics have accused Yousafzai of betraying her principles by partnering with Clinton, citing the latter’s controversial stance on Gaza.
Clinton’s previous op-ed in The Atlantic, where she argued against a complete ceasefire in Gaza, and her defense of Israel amidst criticism have drawn ire from activists. Additionally, her involvement in drone attacks in Pakistan during her tenure as Secretary of State has further fuelled criticism of her alignment with Yousafzai on the musical project.
