ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum has been appointed as the new Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). A notification issued from the prime minister’s office confirmed the appointment here on Tuesday. The new DG ISI will take charge from November 20.
The appointment comes after speculations of rifts in the civil-military leadership relations. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had previously said that legal proceedings would be followed for the appointment of DG ISI.
“The legal procedure will be followed in the appointment of the new DG ISI, for which both [Gen Bajwa and Prime Minister Imran] are in agreement.”
He had also denied the rumours by stating that the prime minister and chief of army staff are on the same page.
“Gen Bajwa and the prime minister have close and cordial relations. And it is also important from a historical perspective that there are ideal relations between Pakistan’s civilian and military leaderships.”
