KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ruled that the local government elections will be held here and Hyderabad on January 15 as scheduled. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had submitted a petition to postpone the local elections until new voter list was formed.
Sindh government, which has been reluctant to hold the LG elections on pretext of one issue or the other, has also been advised by the ECP to start preparing for the elections. It is pertinent to mention here that the second round of the local government elections was originally supposed to take place last year on July 24.
The Sindh government, in collusion with the MQM-P, had been postponing the election citing the lack of security personnel and the new delimitation of constituencies among several reasons.
