KARACHI: The prime suspect in journalist Athar Mateen’s murder case was killed in early hours of Tuesday during a police encounter in Qambar-Shahdadkot.
According to details, Qambar-Shahdadkot police and Karachi police (West) carried out a joint operation to hunt down the main suspect, Anwar Husni. Upon sensing the presence of police, Husni opened fire. In response, police opened a counterfire and killed Husni on the spot. Earlier, one other suspect had been arrested for allegedly murdering Athar.
Athar was killed on February 18 in North Nazimabad, Karachi. Police said that Athar hit the bike of muggers who were looting a citizen. The muggers subsequently opened fire at Athar, killing him on the spot.
