In a significant weather event, Karachi recorded its hottest night ever in July with the minimum temperature not dipping below 32.5 degrees Celsius. This new record surpasses the previous highs of 32 degrees Celsius set on July 1st and 17th of this year.
On July 17, the city already hit a notable peak with a minimum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, marking the highest nighttime temperature for July up to that date. Prior to this, the lowest July temperatures recorded in 2021 and 2022 had been 31 degrees Celsius, as per the meteorological department’s data.
Despite these high temperatures, the Meteorological Department has noted that Karachi is currently experiencing coastal winds. While these winds are expected to alleviate the intensity of the heat to some extent, they will still sustain warm and humid conditions across the city.
In terms of daytime temperatures, Karachi is forecasted to be 2 to 4 degrees Celsius cooler today compared to the past two days. The temperatures are expected to reach up to 37 degrees Celsius, with possible rain showers anticipated in the outskirts of the city.
The recent weather patterns highlight the ongoing challenges of extreme heat and its impact on urban living, emphasising the need for preparedness and adaptive measures to ensure public safety and comfort during such periods.
