DELHI: Former World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev has slammed Virat Kohli over the comments he recently made at the post-match presentation ceremony after India were smashed by New Zealand in a must-win game.
Kohli had said that the team ‘wasn’t brave enough with the bat or ball’. The comment irked the former Indian captain who called the statement ‘weak’.
“For a big player like him, it is a very weak statement. If that is the kind of body language the team has and if that is kind of thought process the captain has, it is really tough to lift the team. I felt a little strange hearing those words. He isn’t that kind of a player,” Kapil said while talking to the Indian media.
However, Kapil gave Kohli the benefit of doubt stating that he was a fighter and, perhaps, he got lost due to the heavy defeats at the hands of Pakistan and New Zealand. India’s World T20 campaign is all but over virtually.
The Indian media and former cricketers have criticised the Indian team for a poor outing at the ongoing T20 World Cup. This is India’s sixth exit from an ICC tournament in recent years.
