Islamabad: The Maulana Fazl-Ur-Rehman led Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has filed a petition against the Transgender Person Act in the Shariat Court. The petition stated that now law should be passed that contradicts the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. The case will be taken by the Federal Shariat Court on October 3.
Earlier, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) said that the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) (Amendment) Bill 2022 is not in-line with the Sharia and deemed it as un-Islamic. CII added that multiple sections of the Act would add social problems across the country as they are contradictory to Islamic teachings. The top religious body urged the government to form a committee of religious scholars and legal experts that would review the transgender act.
