The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has issued a report on the condition of journalists around the world. According to the report, different countries have imprisoned 293 journalists, and 24 correspondents have lost their lives in 2021.
The report states that China has put 50 journalists behind the bar, followed by Burma with 26, Vietnam with 23, Belarus 19 and Egypt detaining 25 journalists. Other countries included Eritrea, Ethiopia, Russia, Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia. Last year the committee reported 280 journalists in prison.
Mexico was titled as the ‘deadliest state for journalists’ as six journalists were reportedly killed during the investigation while three lost lives when they were on the field. India also got labelled as a dangerous country for journalists with four deaths reported this year.
