ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan looked very confident at the March 23 parade ahead of the no-confidence voting, stating that he would use his “trump card” at the right time to defeat the opposition. He claimed that he had the support of all the party workers and they were resolute in their fight against corruption and horse-trading.
Pointing out as to how his government was different than that of Benazir Bhutto in 1996 despite having decent numbers in the national politics, Mr Khan said that he had the most important element – the support of the people. “Her government was removed because she did not have people rooting for her,” said the prime minister.
However, according to reports circulating in the media, Khan’s government faces an uphill battle as its allies have made up their mind and decided to join the opposition. Meanwhile, the government has increased its efforts to appease the disgruntled members within its own ranks and the allies. But, it appears that they have categorically told the PTI leadership that the time of appeasement was over.
