The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Sunday laid bare the details of the call that took place between the Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and its Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on Saturday. According to the IMF, the call took place at the request of the Pakistani premier.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had previously claimed that he was approached by the IMF to discuss the possibility of the release of a loan tranche in a bid to help Pakistan with its fast depleting foreign reserves. However, a clarification from the IMF indicates that the Pakistani authorities approached the IMF.
Both sides are expected to discuss all the outstanding issues at the Geneva moot today.
