Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has revealed that the International Monetary Funds (IMF) could lend Pakistan $2 billion. However, the prime minister argued that the real goal of the government was to achieve self-reliance.
The prime minister made these remarks at conference named ‘Turnaround Pakistan’ organised by the Planning Ministry. Mr Sharif called on the masses to work together to ensure that self-reliance was achieved.
Pakistan has been struggling to keep its economy floating in the last six months. With China having credited $2.3bn into State Bank of Pakistan’s account and IMF lending $2bn to Pakistan, the country has all but avoided the threat of default.
