LAHORE: The Naya Pakistan Sehat Card scheme was launched by Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Monday. The scheme will provide Rs1 million health insurance cover annually, all across Punjab.
The prime minister has termed the health card Punjab initiative as a landmark and a moment that will guide the country towards becoming a welfare state. The distribution of Sehat cards will commence from January 2022, facilitating families in Punjab to receive Rs1 million worth medical treatment annually, and will be applicable to both private and government hospitals.
PM Khan insisted that Sehat cards were more of a part of health system rather than insurance that will obligate the private hospitals to provide free of cost health facilities to people from underprivileged areas. In a span of three years, Rs440 billion would be spent on health facilities by the Punjab government.
He also talked about the future projects for citizens who earn less than Rs50,000 monthly. They will be provided with subsidies on pulses, flour, and ghee through the Ehsaas Rashan scheme. Deserving students would also be offered scholarships worth Rs47 billion.
