ISLAMABAD: The coalition government has decided to hike the gas prices by 80 per cent for the export industry.
The per mmBtu gas rate for the export industry has now reached Rs 1,350 from Rs820 after an increment of Rs530. For the general industry, the rate has been increased to Rs 1,550 per mmBtu from Rs850.
The spokesperson from Finance Ministry Rana Ahsan Afzal said that increasing the prices was inevitable, and the government was still providing gas to export industries at reasonable rates.
He added that a Rs40 billion subsidy had been allocated for the export-based sector so that it could match with the international market.
