KARACHI: On what would have been the Pakistani social activist’s 65th birthday, the search engine giant Google paid tribute to Perween Rahman with a doodle of her looking out at the slums of Orangi from her office window.
Rahman was killed on March 13, 2013 when her car came under fire from four gunmen. All the suspects have been handed life imprisonment in connection with the murder. Rahman was renowned for her work for the underprivileged communities and would often speak up about the land mafias.
She was working on the Orangi Pilot Project when she was murdered. She was awarded the Sitara-i-Shujaat posthumously by the President of Pakistan just 10 days after her murder.
