ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) faced one after another setback in their electoral journey. After the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) revoked PTI’s bat symbol, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) also upheld the ECP decision. In a situation of crisis, the PTI Chairperson Barrister Gohar Khan wished to initiate talks with the establishment to resolve the tense circumstances.
Gohar Khan said that PTI only wanted to put forward its stance and never had any quarrel with the establishment. He added that the party was ready to establish a constructive dialogue with the powerful stakeholders by sitting across the table.
Amid the standoff between army and PTI, the Gohar claimed that the party has no rift with anyone, and Imran Khan has consistently said that the country & army are ours. While talking to media, the chairman unveiled that he and Imran Khan were busy finalising the names of the general election candidates inside the cold walls of jail.
Regarding the role of ECP, Gohar believed that ECP has become an entity acting against PTI by depriving the party of its election symbol and chasing the case as it had never done before.
According to Khan, his party conducted the most transparent intra-party elections but ECP only targeted PTI to sideline them and push the most popular political party of the country against the wall. He added that it would be unjust to hand over government to a party with just 20 or 25 per cent public support instead of a party having a public support of over 70 per cent.
