After several political and public personalities spoke in favour of the Pakistani movie Joyland and opposed its ban, the eight-member committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the movie yesterday.
The committee overviewed the complaints about Joyland, which won the Jury award at the Cannes film festival and would be the official submission of Pakistan to the Oscars. The fate of Joyland is yet to be announced.
Earlier, the movie had received a clean chit from the Censor Board of Film Certification and was about to release on November 18. However, several complaints were submitted regarding the contents of the film after which it was banned again. Since then, the hashtag ‘Release Joyland’ became viral.
The movie will now go through a full-board review, despite the director Saim Sadiq clarifying several times that the film has no objectionable material.
