A tragic bus accident in Iran’s Yazd province claimed the lives of at least 35 Pakistani pilgrims and left 15 others critically injured late on Tuesday. The accident, attributed to a brake failure, occurred as the bus was transporting pilgrims, many of whom hailed from Larkana, Ghotki, and other cities in Sindh.
The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, while authorities worked to identify and assist the victims. Of the 23 people injured in total, the group included 11 women and 17 men.
President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expedite the repatriation of the deceased and ensure the injured receive necessary medical care. Additionally, Pakistan’s consular services in Iran have been mobilised to support the affected pilgrims and manage the situation.
The tragedy occurred during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, an event that sees millions of Shia Muslims journey to Iraq’s Karbala Governorate to observe the 40th day of mourning for Imam Hussain bin Ali (RA).
