A large percentage of women do not have the opportunity to continue their education and work simultaneously. In an economical crisis like today’s, it has become important for a person to take up some work to support finances as well as attain quality education. For women, it becomes more difficult because if they want to work with studies then they’ll have to swing between office, class, and home chores.
Recently, on Women’s Day 2023, McDonald’s came forward to change the norm and offered a viable solution for women who want to carry education with their studies. On March 8, McDonald’s launched a campaign where a female employee shared her journey of maintaining work with education.
EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION
The ad, released on YouTube and social media platforms, told the story of Mehwish, who started working at McDonald’s and was enrolled in a university degree programme.
She narrated the stereotypical comments she faced while continuing her job with education. People used to tell her that a woman could not be both a student and an employee. However, the flexible policy of McDonald’s of allowing employees to gain an education while working helped her to flourish in both areas. The campaign was initiated with the hashtag #EMBRACEEQUITY, which focussed on giving the same treatment to every employee of the company.
IMPORTANCE OF INITIATIVES LIKE MCDONALD’S
Most people don’t realise that there are many women who want to support their families and also want to gain education. The road is not that simple for males also, but in the case of women, it becomes even harder.
Females are not allowed to have financial independence in society. In fact, even the mere mention of such a concept is frowned upon. However, the situation is changing gradually. That said, more initiatives from the corporate sector, brands, and stalwart organisations would help bring the change at the micro level.
