Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), is set to hold a press conference today at 3 PM at the General Headquarters. The briefing will focus on the nation’s current security situation, particularly in light of the recent surge in terrorist activities and the military’s efforts to counter these threats.
The upcoming press conference comes after an earlier briefing on July 22, where the DG ISPR discussed various critical issues, including Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, digital terrorism, the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) sit-in, and the Palestine conflict.
In the previous presser, Lt Gen Chaudhry emphasised that Operation Azm-e-Istehkam is a counter-terrorism initiative, not a conventional military operation. He criticised attempts to politicise the operation and stated that it is not comparable to past operations such as Zarb-e-Azb. He noted that a significant lobby opposes the success of the National Action Plan, which the operation seeks to support.
Chaudhry explained that Operation Azm-e-Istehkam aims to sever the connections between terrorism and criminal activities like smuggling and benami properties. He warned against narratives attempting to undermine the operation and stressed its importance for national security and survival.
Addressing the issue of digital terrorism, the DG ISPR highlighted the dangers posed by misinformation campaigns on social media, which target the military and its leadership. He equated digital terrorists with physical terrorists, noting that both spread lies and fake news to destabilise the country.
Regarding recent protests, Chaudhry refuted rumours of military involvement in events like the TLP sit-in at Faizabad. He clarified that the military and the government are committed to resolving such issues peacefully. He also mentioned the Chaman border sit-in, which was resolved by agreeing to the demand for cross-border movement documentation. He condemned the promotion of illegal trade at the Afghan border.
Today’s press conference is expected to provide further insights into these issues and outline the military’s ongoing and future efforts to safeguard Pakistan’s security.
