ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif lashed out at the Afghan authorities here on Wednesday, blaming them for the rising terrorism in Pakistan by allowing their land to be used for illegal activities. He reiterated that there was a need for stricter border controls to prevent the threat of terrorism.
Asif took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his views on the issue against the backdrop of three terrorist attacks in the past week. “In view of the increase in terrorist incidents, there is a need for a fundamental change in the border situation. The source of terrorism in Pakistan is in Afghanistan and despite our efforts, Kabul is not making any progress in this direction,” wrote Asif.
He blamed the Taliban authorities in Kabul for lack on action on their part despite being fully aware of the terrorist hideouts in their country. His comments come after a special security meeting convened and chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
