The cyclone will hit the Gujarat coast near Keti Bandar today (June 15 2023). Met Office reported that winds are blowing at a speed of 120 to 140 km per hour around the storm, while gusts are blowing at a speed of 160 km per hour. Waves of over 30 feet at the centre of the storm are recorded.
The sea surface temperature of 29 to 30 degrees Celsius is proving to be favourable for the storm. Met Department stated that high waves, strong winds and high temperatures are collectively playing a positive role in making the storm stronger.
From June 15 to June 16, Karachi would experience winds blowing at a speed of 60 to 80 km per hour. It is also reported that approximately 8 to 12 feet high waves will occur on Sindh Katy Bandar and Karachi coast today.
As the low-lying settlements of Katy Bunder are under threat of flooding, fishermen should avoid heading out into the open sea until June 17.
