KARACHI: The provincial capital of Sindh is clearly under the grip of the fifth wave of Covid-19 as the positivity ratio here as reached an alarming 15.09 per cent. The overall positivity ratio in the country stands at 3.66pc as per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
According to the NCOC, 1,649 positive cases were reported in the country during the last 24 hours. Sindh reported the highest number of cases with 928 followed by Punjab with 561.
The Sindh health department reported a 15pc positivity ratio in Karachi. Dow Diagnostic Research and Reference Laboratory (DDRRL) said that 87pc of positive cases were caused by the Omicron variant. They added that 60pc of patients were females.
The surge in cases has forced the Sindh government to initiate a door-to-door vaccination drive. The campaign will reportedly begin next week. Private hospitals have been provided with the Covid-19 vaccines by the Sindh health department.
