ISLAMABAD: In a rare pleasant Covid-related development, the country has reported less than 3,000 confirmed positive cases for the first time since January 11. Pakistan had been under the grip of Covid’s fifth wave, mainly driven by the recently discovered Omicron variant.
The Covid positivity ratio has also dropped subsequently to 5.3 per cent from 7.5pc previously. Of the total 52,327 tests conducted, 2,799 came back positive. The country, however, continues to report a relatively large number of deaths. As per the National Command and Operation Centre, Pakistan reported 37 deaths in the past 24 hours.
As for the patients fighting for their lives, the number is currently standing at 1,688. Most number of cases were reported by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 974 followed by Sindh with 850, Punjab with 448, Islamabad with 359, Azad Jammu and Kashmir with 85, Gilgit-Baltistan with 49, and Balochistan with 34.
