ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has witnessed a surge in the Covid-19 cases in the past week. The current positivity ratio is the highest since October 14. An increase in Omicron cases has also been witnessed.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan has requested each province to ensure sufficient oxygen backup in case of any unwanted situation.
During the last 24 hours, the positivity ratio in Pakistan has increased to 2.32 per cent. Health authorities tested 46,585 people of which 1,085 tested positive. Five patients lost their lives while 636 are in critical condition.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has urged the citizens to get vaccinated following a rise in cases of the Omicron variant. He added that Karachi and Lahore have reported the most number of Omicron cases. In course of 10 days, Islamabad has witnessed a rise of 940pc followed by Punjab with a surge of 185pc in the positive Omicron cases.
Earlier, Hong Kong had imposed a ban on incoming flights from eight different countries including Pakistan due to a rise in Omicron cases.
