Chief Minister Punjab Parvez Elahi retained his position as Chief Minister Punjab after a chaotic and controversial vote of confidence resolution. The session of the Punjab Assembly made little to no sense as it started in the late hours and continued after 12:00 AM.
Speaker Punjab Assembly Sabtain Khan announced the decision in the absence of the opposition and stated that under Article 130/7 of the Constitution, Parvez Elahi remains CM Punjab as he received 186 votes.

During the session, opposition members gathered in front of the dais and protested against the Chief Minister and the Speaker. Opposition members threw papers in the air and raised objections to the procedure. While talking to the media, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that they did not accept the process of voting as the process was bulldozed and against the constitution.
He added that the process dragged on for 7 to 8 hours, and despite 12 hours of effort, CM Punjab could not complete the required number. Rana Sanaullah further added that the process does not meet the requirements of the Governor’s order.
He protested for not allowing Malik Ahmad Khan to speak on the point of objection. The Interior Minister said that honourable members were not even allowed to see the counting process.
