KARACHI: The Civil Aviation Authority has decided to take strict action against smoking and use of tobacco at the premises of Karachi International Airport – Jinnah International Airport. As per the latest notification, the aviation authority has imposed a ban on smoking and use of all kinds of tobacco products.
A notification was issued by the authority that notified about the ban on smoking and the use of all tobacco products. According to the notification, no person can use pan, chalia, and gutka on the premises of Jinnah International Airport. The new orders will be effective from November 6, 2023.
The administration also stated that those found using pan, chalaia, or smoking tobacco-based products inside the terminal building of Karachi Airport would face strict action. Anyone using chew pan, chalia, and gutka, would pay a fine of Rs 1000.
Subsequently, the Civil Aviation Authority has also issued stern orders to the employees of Karachi Airport, all affiliated companies & airlines to maintain and follow the directives. Employees who do not adhere to the regulations regarding the use of tobacco products will lose their airport entry pass. CAA vigilance & Airports Security Force(ASF) are asked to keep a strict vigilance.
Reportedly, the airport administration found marks of pan-gutka spitting in the terminal building, elevators, and airport exits which provoked the authorities to apply a complete ban on these products.
