In a recent development, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has taken a bold stance against the propagation of misinformation, lodging a First Information Report (FIR) against an account disseminating an AI-generated deepfake video featuring him. The fabricated video, reportedly manipulated from authentic footage of an interview with news agency ANI, portrays Singh falsely criticising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on issues such as unemployment and inflation.
According to NDTV reports, the deepfake video concludes with a misleading message urging viewers to support the Congress party.
Reacting promptly to the controversy, Singh took to his Instagram stories, issuing a cautionary statement to his followers: “Deepfake se bacho doston [Friends, beware of deepfakes].”
Confirming the legal action, Singh’s spokesperson informed ANI that an FIR has been lodged, marking a significant move in combating the spread of fake news and manipulated media.
“Yes, we have filed the police complaint and an FIR has been lodged against the handle that was promoting the AI-generated deepfake video of Ranveer Singh,” the spokesperson asserted.
