ISLAMABAD: A new chapter unfolds in Pakistan’s political landscape as Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of the late iconic leader Benazir Bhutto and sister of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, prepares to embark on her parliamentary journey.
Monday marks a pivotal moment as Aseefa is slated to be sworn in as a member of the National Assembly, signalling her formal entry into the political arena.
The induction of Aseefa into parliament signifies a continuation of the enduring Bhutto legacy, initiated by her maternal grandfather, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founding figure of PPP and a former premier. Stepping into the footsteps of her revered mother and grandfather, Aseefa is poised to uphold their political heritage alongside her elder brother, Bilawal.
The National Assembly session, convened by NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on the requisition of opposition parties, is scheduled for 5 PM, where Aseefa will take her oath of office. The agenda for the session will primarily revolve around matters raised by the opposition, reflecting the diverse spectrum of issues confronting the nation.
Meanwhile, the much-anticipated joint session of parliament, initially slated for April 16 (Tuesday), has been rescheduled to April 18 (Thursday). This significant gathering will herald the commencement of the new parliamentary year, with President Asif Ali Zardari expected to address the combined sitting of both houses.
President Zardari invoked Article 54(1) and 56(3) of the Constitution to summon the joint session, exercising his constitutional prerogatives to convene the highest forum of legislative deliberation.
