On Thursday, the Pakistan Junior Hockey team put forward an impressive fight but could not win the title and lost the finals by 2-1 against India. But never the less the men in green showed great performance throughout the tournament.
Their journey began with a lot of questions as many thought Pakistan would not qualify for the Junior Hockey World Cup. But against all odds, the team remained undefeated in the group stage and qualified for the World Cup on merit.
The final match was also a close call. India had the lead till half time by 2-0 but Pakistan showed resilience in the third quarter and made the score 2-1. However, their valiant effort went in vain and the green shirts couldn’t win the tournament.
However, this is the point where hockey team requires the support of nation. The condition of Pakistan’s national sport is deteriorating. But the performance of Junior Hockey team is a ray of hope that if we provide them adequate resources and employment, they can bring back the golden era of Pakistan hockey.
