Anti-terrorism court acquits Rao Anwar in Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case

KARACHI: On Monday, after five years, an anti-terrorism court has acquitted Rao Anwar in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case. Former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar and over 12 subordinates were the prime suspect in the gruesome incident.

Naqeebullah, an aspiring model, was killed in a controversial encounter on January 13, 2018. The verdict on the case was reserved on January 14, 2023, after the trial of the anti-terrorism court that took place in the Karachi central prison.

Rao Anwar and his subordinates were indicted on March 25, 2019, and since then are denying the allegations. During the trial over 60 witnesses recorded their testimonies including five eyewitnesses: Muhammad Qasim, Hazrat Ali, Sharoob Khan, Humayun and Afsar Khan.
