Electricity breakdown hits major cities in Pakistan

A disruption in the frequency of the national grid plunged the major parts of country into darkness. Around 22 districts faced a power outage since 7:35 AM on Monday. According to Energy Minister Khurrum Dastagir, a frequency variation was reported at 7:30 AM, between Jamshoro and Dadu, when the systems were rebooted. He added that units had to be shut down because of voltage fluctuation.

Around 117 grids in Islamabad are receiving zero electric supply. Similarly, in Lahore major areas like Mall Road, Kana Road and others faced disruption in electricity. People across Pakistan reported power failure on social media platforms.

Regarding the power restoration, Khurrum Dastagir briefed that a few grids of Islamabad Electric Supply (IESCO) and Peshawar Electric Supply (PESCO) are restored. However, he did not provide a clear picture of Karachi’s situation. Khurrum said that the matter of Karachi remains complicated.
