A special flight carrying 70 Pakistani nationals, evacuated from Lebanon, landed in Karachi early this morning, according to Radio Pakistan. The returning citizens were warmly received at Jinnah International Airport by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Federal Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Provincial Minister Ikramullah Dharejo.
The evacuation, coordinated by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, involved a complex operation where the repatriated nationals travelled by road from Lebanon to the Syrian capital, Damascus. From there, they were airlifted to Pakistan. Among the evacuees were also four Pakistanis from Syria, highlighting the multi-country efforts to ensure their safe return.
In a statement, the Foreign Office praised the role of the Pakistani embassies in both Lebanon and Syria, which worked diligently to manage the citizens’ security, transport, and food arrangements throughout the evacuation process. The embassies’ efforts ensured a smooth and safe transition for the evacuees amid challenging circumstances.
This successful evacuation highlights Pakistan’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad, with swift government action helping those affected by the ongoing instability in the region. Governor Tessori, while welcoming the returnees, expressed gratitude for the efforts of the diplomatic missions and assured them of continued government support during their resettlement.
