PTA restores 4G services in Gilgit-Baltistan

ISLAMABAD/ GB: The Pakistan Tele­com­munication Authority (PTA) has restored the 4G services in Gilgit-Baltistan after a 16-day suspension. The cellular internet services were suspended on September 1, 2023, due to religious tensions across the region. The Gilgit-Baltistan Home & Prisons Department officially announced the restoration of 4G cellular inte­r­net services in a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Minis­try of Interior.

The letter stated that 4G cellular internet services had been restored to alleviate difficulties faced by the public. The government administration of the region (in a press release) said that the internet & mobile phone services were suspended to stop the spread of malicious content by miscreants on social media and restore law and order situation.

The press release added that the law & order situation has normalised, and the government has taken measures to immediately rest­ore the internet services to end difficulties of students, companies & freelancers.

Gilgit-Baltistan government has appealed to ensure positive and constructive use of the internet. The statement added that strict legal action would be taken against those found involved in dissemination of obscene & hateful content.
